Dr. Kristin Roberts, EA

Kris Roberts, Managing Partner, has almost twenty-five years’ experience in the field of accounting, taxation, and entrepreneurship.

Kris earned her Doctor of Business Management degree from the University of Phoenix. Her field research focused on federal tax compliance for small businesses located in the state of Connecticut.  She has presented her research findings for various academic and professional groups throughout the country.

She has been an Enrolled Agent (EA) since 2003.  An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally licensed tax practitioner. EA’s are authorized by the U.S. Department of Treasury and follow Circular 230 regulations.  EA’s are the only federally licensed tax practitioners who specialize in taxation and have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service.  Enrolled Agents are required to demonstrate to the IRS their competence in all areas of taxation, representation, and ethics before they are granted the right to represent taxpayers.  Because of the expertise necessary to become an Enrolled Agent and the requirements to maintain the license, there are only about 53,000 practicing enrolled agents world-wide.

Kris is also the Assistance Program Chair of the Accounting Department at The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business at Post University.  Kris has been at Post since 2010.  There, she designs and develops the curriculum for various taxation courses, as well as teaches a variety of accounting and taxation classes, both online and in the lecture hall.

Kris’ love for teaching extends to her professional community as well.  She served as the Chair of the Education Committee for the CT Chapter of the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) for several years, before taking the position of President of the Chapter.  Kris also served as Vice-President for NATP’s national Board of Directors. She is a guest lecturer and speaker for a variety of professional and community organizations, including various Chambers of Commerce, SCORE, the Entrepreneurial Center of Northwest CT, and other state chapters of NATP.  She also develops free webcasts/webinars for other tax professionals to help explain new tax laws and their impact on the tax professional as well as the taxpayer.

Kris has authored a variety of tax related articles that have been published online and in the TaxPro Journal. Topics have included; Taxation of Crowdfunding; First Time Delinquent Taxpayers; Casualty Losses; Profitability and Sustainability; and Partnership Dissolution.

Besides her work, Kris is very active in her community.  She served as President of Main Street Torrington, Inc., a non-profit that focuses on economic development activities in the City of Torrington.  She has also served on the board of the NW CT Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation. She currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Entrepreneurial Center of Northwest Connecticut located at Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

Kris is a native of NW CT and currently lives in Torrington.  She is the proud mother of three grown sons, and is the grandmother to three beautiful granddaughters, Leah, Alie and Sophia Marie.  When she is not working, she enjoys time with her family, listening to classic rock, live music, going on cruises, …and watching any Marvel movie!
